Ashes to Ashes

A secret, government program created superheroes. Or more accurately, superhumans. Being heroes, it turned out, did not come naturally.

Chris and Natalie are the children of the first generation of these superhumans, and while they share the same power of fire, they could not come from more opposite worlds.

But, their relationship isn't as simple as hero versus villain. When the secrets they have been hiding from one another - and the secrets that have been kept from them - begin to come to light, the illusions of safety and happiness around them start to burst into flames.

What happens when you fight fire with fire?

Author's Note: This story is close to my heart. The very first draft of this was completed the summer before I started ninth grade. My friends read it. Family read it. I gave it to some teachers to read. I always knew it wasn't finished, but when I revisited it in 2021 for NaNoWriMo, I suddenly finally found the missing pieces I needed. I have been working on edits since then and have found a new resurgence this year (2024), especially in worldbuilding.

Music drives me when I write. Sometimes a single song can spur just the right feeling I need to craft a scene.
